Rotary Club of East Cobb proposes to use the District 6900 funds for a basic education and literacy improvement project at Brumby Elementary School, located at 1360 Powers Ferry Road, Marietta, Georgia 30067. Brumby E.S. has been our “adopted school” for several years and our club continues to conduct and participate in numerous projects there, such as at-risk student mentoring, student group readings, acquisition of needed school equipment and supplies and similar projects. Specifically, our club intends to pay for a one-year subscription to Education City’s Learn English program and Computing for Brumby E.S. students in Kindergarten through 5th grade. The subscription gives these students access to an online, interactive platform both in and away from the classroom. The platform allows educators, mentors and tutors to introduce and reinforce the English Language and Computing concepts to students and help these students master state and Common Core standards and gain digital literacy through digital lessons and activities. The school plans to host a training for Rotarians to learn about the platform and become familiar with the various lessons plans. Once familiarized, the Rotarians will mentor and tutor students using the Education City materials in the school’s computer lab.
