10/23/18: Ivonne (Ivy) Meares is making the rounds with her wonderful presentation on her home country, Zimbabwe. Although Medicine is her ultimate pursuit, Public Speaking also suits her well! Brava, Ivy! ?❤️
A TOUCH OF AFRICAN IVY AT CANTON ROTARY
Who must be one of the most delightful young women from the southeastern African nation of Zimbabwe as a Georgia Rotary Student Program (GRSP) student this year visited the Rotary Club of Canton on October 16. Ivy (Ivonne) Meares, just 20 years old, led Canton Rotarians on a PowerPoint view of her country as if she were a professional tour guide.
Coming from a landlocked nation of 16 million people that boasts Victoria Falls as one of the reputed "Seven Wonders of the World," Ivy highlighted the geographical and statistical features of her country seamlessly and gracefully. Ivy is studying biochemistry at Kennesaw State University and aspires to be a doctor or some other professional in the medical field.
Ivy is uniquely sponsored by 7 Rotary clubs in 3 different Rotary districts this year -- in addition to our customary grouping of the Rotary Clubs of Canton, Jasper, Woodstock, Towne Lake, and Cherokee County (District 6910), the Rotary Clubs of East Cobb (District 6900) and Vinings (District 6920) have joined in sponsorship of her.
Ivy is a true Rotary alumnus, having lived in France for a year as a Rotary Youth Exchange student in high school, serving as President of her school's Interact Club, and having joined the Kennesaw State University Rotaract Club.
During her Rotary club presentation, Ivy cited mining of gold and diamonds as one of her country's main industries. Having exported those two minerals to Georgia as shown by Ivy's golden and diamond-studded presentation, Zimbabwe is being well represented by this African gem ambassador of good will in this year's GRSP program! #CantonGARotary
