Each week at the RCNA meetings, instead of giving the speaker a stipend or other small gift, they are asked to write an inspirational quote or message and sign the inside front cover of a childrens book that is then donated to the Cary Reynolds Elementary School in Doraville, GA. We affix inside the front of the book a Four-Way Test label. This serves as an opportunity to share the ideals of Rotary with the club's speaker as well as each student who uses the books.
This an on-going RCNA project and is sustainable. Over the past 6 years we have given several hundreds of hard cover books enhancing the cache of interesting and intriguing opportunities for the children to explore and read. Literacy is a challenge at this Title 1 school where English is a second language for a very high percentage of students, and more than 90% of the children qualify for the free and reduced lunch program.
