The Rotary Club of East Cobb has long partnered with Wheeler High School in Marietta, GA to volunteer as judges to review Senior projects. Twice a year, in the Spring and Fall, high school Seniors are tasked with creating a project and selecting a mentor or coach, to provide guidance and feedback about how the student can learn from such an experience. Many students try to rely on a topic they are familiar with while some will stretch further to tackle a topic that they have had no exposure to before. This creates a scenario where students have never presented a project before a group of adult judges. Fear and nervousness is most evident.
As Rotarians and parents, we are always blown away by the creativeness and poise that many of these students bring to the table. The joy we receive from this great program is helping to evaluate the students with constructive feedback to encourage them to continue this learning curve as they prepare for college.
Our club is pleased to participate with this project each year with Wheeler High School as we watch these kids mature. At this event, we had 5 Rotarians participate including 2 spouses.
